I just got a new iPod shuffle, and it's been a very exasperating experience trying to download mp3 audios off of the internet onto my itunes and then to iPod.

Many of the mp3 files are Quicktime, and I don't know how to get it onto my iPod. I read where saving as "source" can help. But then I go to "save as", it's grayed out. So, I can't save it anyway.

Any suggestions? I'm about ready to send this back.

Also, there are times when iTunes doesn't reflect my iPod icon so the contents page doesn't show then either. How to I get the iPod icon to stay on the source payne? The iPod is plugged into the computer. Thanks.

Hello, I would like to try and help with your issue. First when you say downloading quicktime audio off the internet, what format are the files in? If they are in .mov format the shuffle is not compatible with those files, although they should play in iTunes. Make sure the files you are trying to add are one of these formats (if they are on your computer just or the file and look at what the extension is):

AAC (8 to 320 Kbps)
Protected AAC (from iTunes Store)
MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps)
MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4)
WAV
AIFF

If the file you are looking to download has save as grayed out, look for "save target as..." or "save link as..." if these options aren't available the author of the site has right click protection enabled, preventing people from stealing protected content. The absolute best way to get music for your ipod is to import the cd's you own, and music you have purchased from one of the major online stores known to work with the iPod (Itunes store, Amazon downloads, and emusic.com)

Adding songs to your itunes library (to later add to your shuffle) can be done many ways. If you purchased the item from the iTunes Store, they are already added to your library. If you downloaded the file from the internet, browse to the folder and file where you saved the item, open itunes, and click and drag the file to the itunes window...drop it there and the file, if it will work in tunes will be added to your library. If you have a large amount of items to add and one at a time isn't an option, open itunes, click on file>Add to library then browse to the folder where all your stuff is located. Click open and the files will start being added to your library (if you have a large collection, this could take some time)

Hope this helps some. Please let me know if this answered your questions, if not I will try again, or open this up for another tech to look at.

Thank you. I don't know what kind of file it was and not sure how to tell since I only have to click on a button to get it. I will keep your instructions for the next time this happens to me to see if I can get it to work. Thanks for all your trouble.

Rita
