TICKET ARCHIVE -> Converting .wmv files to video_ts for DVD burn

I have some (legal) sports clips from Euro television that range anywhere from 30-60 minutes each. I want to use my standard Toast app to burn them to DVD, but need them to be converted from their .wmv format, to the video_ts file format. I see a lot of software out there for doing the opposite, but not a lot for the other way on a Mac (10.4.5). Suggestions? Thank you. (I have "midrange" technical skills on my Mac)

Hi Mark

Take a look at Forty-Tow and Flip4Mac;

http://www.kaisakura.com/Forty-Two_DVDVX_Plus.html

you can go to macupdate.com and download a shareware called Flip4Mac. This will let you view and save wmv files in Quicktime.

bob,
I checked out both forty-two and flip4Mac, but it appears that even that configuration only converts to .AVI or MPEG3, etc... files, not the required video_ts file needed for toast burn the DVD. I am pretty new to this stuff. Am I missing something simple? Thanks for your time and input.

Try This

Use divx doctor to convert to .mov, then use ffmpegx to convert/author that into video_ts and audio_ts.

ffmpegX

Bob,
I can see you are really pulling out all the stops here, but I seem to be striking out. I first tried to use the Forty Two to create a readable file for Divx doctor==>.mov==>ffmpegx==> video_ts file. I get an error message in processing the initial scan from Forty Two. I then bipassed the Forty Two and tried directly in Divx doctor. It seemed to produce a .mov file, so that was a good start (I think). But when trying to process that file in ffmpegx, none of the file options to create to were video_ts. There were a heck of a lot of options possible,but still none were this now impossible-seeming covetted video_ts. This is all new to me, but it just seems like it shouldn't be this darned hard. All suggestions are graciously welcomed. Thanks for your generous time.

I'm going to reopen this question for other techs to see. I have no other ideas.

You might also want to post this in our open forums. You'll have a much larger audience.

once you've got it into a quicktime .mov file, try importing into imovie and then burning with idvd. not exactly the most sophisticated method, but imovie takes .movs and idvd takes imovie files

Bob, et al,
just following up here. Turns out upgrading to the latest version of Toast managed the whole problem. I can now drag and drop the original .wmv files and Toast encodes them as necessary without any other manipulation from all of the other softwares I now have. Thank you all for your input.

You have all been so helpful in this process. I got a lot of nice software to try out, but sadly none of it did quite what I was looking for. Silly enough, I finally got the solution to this by simply upgrading to the latest version of Toast (7.0). This latest version seemed to have the specific code converters to do the job built in. I know, I know- why the heck didn't I try that in the first place you say. But I was trying to save money and use some kind of free/shareware. It seemed like a simple enough task on the surface, but as you can see, there was nothing simple about it until I got more software for more $$. Thanks to all of your input.
