Hi,
I am trying to do something fairly simplie.
Copy a DVD in Toast that is bigger than the standard 4.4 gig DVD. (Around 7 Gig and is single sided).
What are my options to a successful copy using Toast specifically or some other software perhaps?
Many Thanks
Andrew
Hi Andrew and welcome to macosx.com
This option, called "Fit-to-DVD compression", is available in Toast 7.0 or later, in the Option drawer displayed when the Copy CD/DVD tab is selected
Previous version of Toast have no this option, then you have to use an external tool:
* Popcorn, from same roxio.com, which is exactly dedidacted to handle DVD of movies.... well, Toast 7 = Toast6 + Popcorn ;-)
* DVD2oneX, FastDVDCopy, DVDRemaster.. see

About "Fit-to-DVD compression" in Toast7 (I use Toast 7)
When this option is check and after you have inserted a DVD in the drive, the main Toast window offers you an "Option" button; through it, you'll be able, if you want, to remove unwanted soundtracks, unwanted soundtitles or parts of the movie (like extras, galleries, ..). Toast displays you the level of compression it will use to fit the big DVD into a 4.4 one
About the compression level: my experiences
For classical movies, a compression up to 40 % is good: you'll see sometimes some pixellating effects, but no important ones that will prevent you for a cumfortable viewing session
For "high speed" movies (like Matrix Reloaded for instance), with highly changing scenes, compression over 30 % drastically scales down the quality of the movie: for such movie, remove all you can.
