I need to repair a corrupted indesign file, that crashes Indesign every time it opens. Same happens with it's backup copy.

Tried to open file on several machines / same result.

I have been researching a bit and wonder if LinkFixer plus could be the solution.

Otherwise is there any hope.

Howdy!

Here's a blurb I found that seems to say that once a doc is corrupted it is unsalvageable:

http://studio.adobe.com/us/tips/tip....l=idsn3kbbooks

"Tip: Publications with more than 16 pages are typically laid out in more than one InDesign document. This practice enables you to maintain manageable file sizes and reduce the risk of an entire publication being lost if a document becomes corrupt. A good method for divvying up a publication into separate documents is to base it on the signature configuration that will be used when printing it. For example, a 68-page magazine may consist of five InDesign documents—one 4-page document for the cover and four 16-page documents for the inside content."

However, here's some quick things to do first:

--apps/utilities/repair permissions
--restart your computer and then try to open the file
--is the file on a server? Make sure it's on your computer's hard drive instead
--restart in "safe mode" and do a system check: restart and hold command + s till you see a black screen with white text/type fsck -f to force a system check/then type reboot when the check is complete
--find the InDesign .pref and/or .plist files and move them to the desktop. Reopen InDesign and then try to reopen the file

Let me know if any of this helps.

Thankx for response i have tried all of the things you mentioned. But no luck yesterday i deecided to redo the whole thing - using en exported pdf preview.
A bit borring, but what the hell. Adobe should develp a little app to solve these problems or alt least tell you why this happened to prevent in future.

They do that by offering the "Back up" file option. If that back up and/or the original file corrupts, there's nothing you can really do at that point…

Sorry you had to recreate your file. I make a habit of always saving a BUJIC (Back Up Just In Case) file of my InDesign mechanical files.

Shall I close this thread?
