Hello,

I tried to get a USB PCMCIA Client working on OSX. The driver was a dell driver and I applied a patch to it. It didn't work so I uninstalled the drivers.

Now, I am getting some funky errors, like my home directory is corrupted. When I double click it it says: 'There is no default application specified to open the document jakechapa'. Also, I can right click and select 'Show Package Contents' to get into the folder. This made me think it had a .app or some other extension, but it doesnt. Also, the permissions are fine.

Also, spotlight stopped working.

I would like to avoid reinstalling OSX entirely...

Thanks
-Jake

2 things are happening: Spotlight has been corrupted and your Home directory has the wrong TYPE and CREATOR codes. Download Cocktail from www.macosxcocktail.com. Click Interface, Finder, Show hidden items. Click restart (this restarts the Finder, *not* the computer). Back in the Finder, double click your hard drive. Delect Spotlight-V100. On your next restart, spotlight should work. Next, download FileTyper (not sure where you should get this, do a google search). In FileTyper, select your Home directory and make it a folder. Hope this helps.

Hey,

I downloaded Fluggel because FileTyper was macos9 only. The spotlight is working now, but I still can't get my home folder to open because Fluggel says there is not file type/creater for folders.

Do you have the original software installer disk for your computer? If so, look inside. You should see something called Package First Aid in the utilities folder. If not, I'll send it to you. Just drag your home directory onto the icon and you should have a home directory again.
