Knowledge Level: Intermediate
Problem: Combination
Computer Type: Apple
Model: Performa 6360
RAM: 32meg
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: MacOS 8

Description:
Hola,
The speed of my 6360 seems very slow...especially on start-up. I have not timed it, but my guess is that start-up takes atleast 4-6 minutes. Does this seem right? What could I do to speed things up? The options I am considering:
1. upgrade to 8.1
2. more ram
3. level 2 cache
4. speed doubler

Which, if any, of these ideas has a chance of helping.
Thanks,
Brian Mullins

Brian,
Thanks for giving us here at No Wonder the opportunity to answer your
question. I am Nevin of the No Wonder Mac Staff.
Yes to all four of your questions, the 8.1 will help, the ram will
definately help as MacOS 8.1 uses around 12-18meg all by itself. The 256 level
2 cache will definately help and should only cost around $40 to $60. You can
check that quote at the suppliers I listed below. The Speed doubler is a must,
I use it and I love it. I also use ram doubler which was a great improvement.
There is a program that is shareware and it is called start-up doubler, I used
it for a while and I saw no real significant increase in my start-up speed. It
should take you no more than 1 minute for a complete start-up. Zap your Pram
and rebuild your desktop to help (and it will) if you need help with these steps
just let me know. Techtool will do them for you with a click of the mouse, you
can download it free from download.com. Good Luck and let me know if you need
further assistance.

Best Regards,
Nevin

Don't forget to rebuild your desktop and zap your pram regularly!
