I have an old Blue G3 running on OSX 10.2.8
Two weeks ago I suddenly was unable to go to any AOL site. I could connect to the inernet, but not AOL.
After 2 weeks of many tech calls to AOL. Apple, Time Warner Cable (they even replaced my Road Runner Modem), and many wasted hours, AOL finally admitted it was a problem on their end and fixed it.
However this was long after one of their techs had me trash my old AOL and replace it. Before it was deleted we were unable to find the Filing Cabinet to save my incoming saved mail.
Now AOL works again, but my mysterious Filing Cabinet still cannot be found. I lost alot of information I was saving.
It was probably trashed in one of the many attempts made by the AOL techs to fix my problem.
Is there ANY hope I can retrieve that file?
I am switching to Gmail after I salvage as much info from AOL as I can.
Thanks!
I know this is a long shot!

With older versions of AOL, the filing cabinet is normally in the Users/Shared folder. Should be an AOL folder there - and look for your AOL user name's Filing Cabinet. If it's not there, or you don't see anything in AOL (and looking at your stored files while running AOL), then it's likely gone (unless some AOL tech asked you to move it somewhere else, and you would be the only one that would know whether that happened.)
It's one of the joys of being an AOL customer - AOL uses so much stuff that is unique to AOL. It's always been their downfall, and has not really changed over the more than (what?) 15 years. I've been (unfortunately) an AOL customer for most of that time.
Sorry for the rant, you don't need that, but all I have is where that filing cabinet is supposed to stay...
Hope this helps you in some small way...

Thanks Dale! And thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
It all started when my AOL would not connect to my TCP/IP.
It would get stuck trying to connect. But the load page had my address book and my incoming/saved mail. I just couldn't log on.
When I called AOL (Everytime I called AOL), they would say look in the Users/Shared folder. That folder was always completely empty. That didn't make any sense at all.
Obviously AOL was there SOMEWHERE with my info, but without making the TCP/IP connection I couldn't logon.
Where else could it have been if not in the user/shared folder? That was a big mystery.
Anyway I appreciate your help, and thank you.
I just have to accept that I have lost that data.
I even appreciated the rant since the last 2 weeks I have been ranting constantly!
