I bought a 2gb ACP external USB "swingdrive" and it comes with two partitions. How do I delete the 2nd partition (or reformat the whole thing with only one partition remaining). Before you say, "Disk Utility"--I tried that. No matter what I seem to do, it will erase each partition, but there always remains two partitions.

On the left side of Disk Utility I get the listing of two partitions:
#1: 1.9 GB USB DISK Pro Media (and under it one volume)
#2: 1.4 MB USB DISK Pro Media (and under it one volume).

No matter whether I erase the first or second partition, or the volume under the first image, or the volume under the second image, two partitions remain.

I am using an iMac g5, with OS X 10.4.8.

Ah... the missing post. That has happened to me twice now.

Your drive is a flash drive, not an actual disk drive.
The small 1.4Mb partition most probably is protected by the management chip of the swingdrive and contains management tools, such as password protection.

So I don't think you will be able to kill it, but if you really want to try, you need to re-partition the disk, not just erase a partition.

In Disk Utility, select the parent disk, above the partitions in the left.
The PARTITION tab becomes visible
Choose this and use the pull down menu to select 1 PARTITION
Press the [Partition] button.

Thanks for trying, Jabberwocky, but it is not working as you anticipated.

In Disk Utility, it comes up with two "parent disks" as you call them, one for the 1.9 GB partition and one for the 1.4 MB partition. Then, under each of these (colored orange), there is one volume for each.

So maybe it cannot be done. Thanks again for trying!

No, you will not be able to change that flash drive's partitions. It is the way it was made and locked into that partition scheme. I have a flash drive that is the same way and can not change it.

I am assuming that the makers thought people would prefer the two partition scheme over a one partition.
