This problem is occurring on an ibook 1.42 ghz PPC with 512mb ram running the latest update of Tiger. I use it on a wireless network at work and at home.

I change the photo on my desktop occasionally, always one from iPhoto. Occasionally, and with no warning, I will start-up and find the previous picture on the desktop. Last night this happened and my Brother Laser Printer disappeared as well. After 2 restarts, all was well.

I am at a loss and thank you in advance for your help.

HI Rob,

I'm hoping this is just a corrupt preference file. Here is the fix.

Locate these files: com.apple.desktop.plist com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.iphoto.plist

Here's the path: MacintoshHD/Users/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate the files, drag them to the Trash. Don't worry... your iBook will create new preference files for you on reboot. Now, launch Disk Utility. Applications/Utilities. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, then click Repair Permissions. When it's finished, Quit Disk Utility.

Now, reboot your iBook. Hopefully the bugs are gone.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to post back and thanks for choosing Macosx.com.

Regards,
Carolyn :-)

Carolyn,

I thought it was a preference but did not know which one. So far everything is working well. I will close the ticket in a few days after I know for certain.
