I have a problem with an Adobe Reader plugin and Safari. When I’m on a site and the document that is to be opened is a pdf. Safari tries to open the pdf from within the Safari browser.

Please note I got rid of Adobe as I found it to be to cumbersome. I didn’t know how to get rid of the plugin.

Please tell me if I can solve this one on my own and how?

It doean't work. This seems to be an issue with an old Adobe PDF plug in. Let's try again.

Reading further down the article, I see you can download TinkerTool and go to the Safari tab once installed. It gives the option to turn off pdf viewing there and should solve your problem. It's entitled, "Disable native support for display of PDF documents". Let me know if this doesn't work.

Please click on one time-compensation offer. Was the PDF document I tried to open. I did as you asked. I already had Tinkertool and opened it and checked off the box you asked for.

Now I'm getting the following message when I try to open a document like the one I mention at the top for stm.info.

"Adobe PDF viewer cannot find a compatible Adobe Acrobat Reader to view this pdf. Please select one."

I would like to use Apple's Preview to read all of my pdf's. Please let me know how to get this to happen. I did an propeller I on a pdf on my desktop and selected in the open with box "Preview".

What else do I have to do? Also how can I get rid of anything else to do with Adobe. I have backup copies on an external drive should I ever want to reinstall it.

Click on a pdf file on your computer and 'get info' on that file (command + i or right click, get info) and choose Open With. In that list, choose Preview and choose as Open With and 'change all...' to Preview for .pdf files.

This will allow your computer to open all pdf files in Preview once you download them.

Safari is still trying to open pdf's from within the program after following all of your steps. I get a circle of lines spinning clockwise while the program tries in vain to open the Adobe Reader plugin and program.

Now what??

If you're in Tiger the article I sent you says this is a known and as yet unfixed issue. I'd recommend right clicking on the pdf links you want to download and 'save file' rather than just clicking them. That will simply download the file to your desktop.

Have you tried Firefox? Much better browsing...
