OK, try this first (which I found in a discussion group):

"Easy Fix for Can't Repair Permissions problem after recent updates in 10.3.9 - For those that had the problem in 10.3.9 after applying the iTunes 6.0.2 update (generally blamed for the problem, although we also updated to QT 7.0.4 the same day) and haven't already done the previous tips mentioned in Wednesday's news (reapplying the 10.3.9 combo update or reverting to iTunes 6.0.1) - AJ sent an easy fix that worked for me (from the DAW-Mac list he said). In the root of the OS X boot drive, go to the Library>Receipts folder and delete any iTunes pkg file there except the iTunesX.pkg and iTunesPhoneDriver.pkg files."

"On my PB G4, I deleted the itunes.pkg and Itunes4.pkg files and then was finally able to run repair permissions from Disk Utility without getting the "Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool..." error. (You'd think it should be ignoring those old receipts.)"

--------------

Download all the latest updates, including the newer Quicktime and iTunes. 10.3.4 is old...

If it doesn't work try downloading the 10.3.9 Combo Updater:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...pdate1039.html

It's big but it includes all the previous updates from 10.3.0 right up-to 10.3.9 and it will overwrite by default.

The problem occurred between iTunes 6.0.2, Quicktime 7.0.4 and 10.3.9. But you really do need to have 10.3.9.

Remove any /Library/Receipts/iTunes.pkg files (you may see other iTunes4.pkg, etc. files you should delete those.) EXCEPT for iTunesPhoneDriver.pkg and iTunesX.pkg.

You have to completely delete the iTunes.pkg file(s), be careful not to delete the other two files mentioned above. You need to empty the trash as well. These are the files that are causing the error in Disk Utility. Your song data is not contained inside these files. All your music and iTunes data should be in your Home folder ~/Music/iTunes unless you moved it somewhere else.

You cannot easily go back from 6.05 to 6.01, your music library has already been converted. If you have a backup you can restore back to 6.0.1 (see below). However iTunes 7.0.2 runs on 10.3.9 so you can upgrade. So it's recommended that you delete the mentioned Receipt package files. Then re-apply the combo updater for 10.3.9, double-check if those Receipt package files were recreated and delete them again and then upgrade to iTunes 7.0.2. Reboot and try running the disk utility again. It should be working at that point.

FYI - The 10.3.9 combo updater is not the same thing as a normal 10.3.9 update. It includes ALL the updates from 10.3.0 up-to and including 10.3.9 so it will overwrite/replace all the system files for all the prior updates to the absolute latest 10.3.9 version. Combo updates tend to fix bizarre problems that occurred during prior updates. It ensures everything is correct.

If you have to try going back to 10.3.4 and iTunes 6.0.1 then you will need to ensure you have a backup of all your data including ~/Library/Music/iTunes. Then perform a wipe and install when you boot from the Mac OS X CD. Re-install everything and restore your data from backup. Hopefully, your re-install version is 10.3.4 and it includes iTunes 6.0.1. But it is still recommended to upgrade to 10.3.9 and the latest iTunes after removing the /Library/Receipts/iTunes.pkg file and not deleting the aforementioned files in that location.

A properly updated 10.3.9 with the latest iTunes 7.0.2 & Quicktime should not have the problem with Disk Utility.

im cool with 10.3.4 for now.i the reason i dont use 10.3.9 is because quicktime 7 has an issue with my studio.and i was unable to revert back to qt651.i was screwed for months.so as long as pro tools works.i really need a new computer.but dont have the money....tnx
