On my fairly new iBook running 10.3.9 I'm having a new and weird problem, which seemed to begin when I upgraded to 10.3.9, downloading it from Apple.

My display calibration just won't hold. At least once an hour my screen image begins to lose contrast. I have to open Display preferences and just click on the name of my most current calibration. That instantly restores my settings - but in about another hour, give/take - my screen's washed out again and I'm back in Display restoring my calibration setting. Luckily it's an easy fix, but beginning to drive me crazy having to do it so often.

Couldn't find any help in Apple's support archives and don't feel like hassling in their forum.

Heard of this before? Could it have anything to do with the bad batteries being recalled, which I've yet to do. I do use my iBook on battery several times per day for short periods of time. Hadn't considered keeping track to see if the calibration problem occurs more frequently when on battery until yesterday.

BTW, thanks for prior help with my Airport Express problem; now solved. Your advice gave me the clues I needed and I solved problem by doing a hard reset.

Howdy!

So does this problem persist when you have your computer plugged into an outlet? This might narrow down the battery issue, though I couldn't find exact confirmation on this, it's probably the best explanation.

And if there's a recall on your battery I would definitely suggest taking apple up on it.

So have you gone through the Disk and Permissions Repair steps yet?
