I have a very annoying problem of my display turning off and not turning on until I restart my Macbook Pro by holding down the power button.

For example, I will close my computer (power cord not plugged in) and it will go to sleep. If for some reason the computer turns on while it is still closed (this happens when I pick it up sometimes) and I then open the computer, the display will be on and then turn off leaving me with a black screen.

Another example: I might close the computer with the power cord in. I will then unplug the computer (still closed) and walk somewhere, then open the computer. The display will be on for a few seconds and then turn off.

Does this make any sense? Please help me, I will be going to college on Tuesday and I would really like to have it so I don't have to restart my computer every time before class.

My display was not always this way, it has just been like this for a few months.

What happens if you simply reclose the lid, watch for the sleep light to start pulsing. Wait for around 30 seconds, then re-open the lid? Does the display come back on OK?

I tried this once and sadly the computer turned on but not the display, when I opened the lid it was dark and stayed dark. Thank you for your response.

If you have tried the 'close the lid again, then wait for a half minute, and open the lid' (which works for me, BTW), then there's little more that you can do without service on your MacBook Pro.

Does your MacBook Pro go back to sleep (the light starts pulsing) when you re-close the lid?
