Hi,
I bought iLife '06 when it came out and have easily set up a website. A miracle! I also own a domain name (through Godaddy.com) and set it this morning to forward visitors to the iWeb page.
Unfortunately, while I've tried Opera, Firefox and Safari, I can't log in to the old domain, just to see if the forwarding is working. I've also cleaned out the caches, etc.
I talked to the Godaddy people and they seem to think it's a matter of RoadRunner taking their own sweet time updating their DNS; they say it could take a couple of days.
I also talked to RoadRunner, and they of course blamed it on GoDaddy.
I've used Terminal to ping the old domain and it says, "Server unknown". (Same goes with Safari et al).
All I know is, my website isn't working. Having said that, GoDaddy (which is clearly on another ISP and in another part of the country) says it worked right away for them and they have no problem with the forwarding at all, so it must be my ISP which is holding things up. I confess, until an hour ago, I had never heard the acronym DNS, so this is all a bit confusing. I also Googled the problem and there were some people still waiting for their DNS updates to kick more than two weeks after doing it.
What I would like to know is, is this a common problem that will clear itself up in the next couple of days? (GoDaddy says wait another 48 hours). Or does it sound like something more serious? Does anyone have any comments about RoadRunner DNS updating?
Anyway, would greatly appreciate any advice or comments you may have.

Hello and thanks for stopping at macosx.com for all of your Mac questions!
To bypass your ISP's cache, type a ? mark after the URL. Hope that helps!

Also, out of curiosity, How'd you get iLife '06 so fast!?, I ordered mine when it came out--it wont be here till the 18th 'cause of the holiday.

Hi,
Thanks for the rapid reply. I'll try it out and see what happens.
As for iLife, I just walked into Tekserve on 23rd Street in New York and they had a whole bunch of them. If you can cancel your order, you could probably order it from them. I think their website is
www.tekserve.com or something along those lines.

To follow up, I tried the "?" after the URL but the same thing happened. Safari said it couldn't find the server. I guess I'll just have to wait a day or two and hope RoadRunner/Time Warner updates soon. This is not looking good.
BTW, this is coming from somone who knows zero about web design and html, but I think iWeb really is pretty amazing. I got up and running within minutes -- without bothering to read the instructions. Now I have about four pages done. The number of basic page-styles is a little limited, however, but I've managed to adapt the Welcome page for several different uses. The other thing is that when I link text to an external webpage or email address it stays gray (turning red when clicked), whereas I'd like to have it start in, say, dark blue. Mind you, maybe I should check Help before making all these complaints . . .

Thats weird that they got it in so fast! Anyway, I thought of one more idea and if this doesn't work then I would say that Godady lied about getting it to work. This website is a proxy browser. If you put in the URL in the box, it will display the website. Keep in mind that most likely, the proxy server is run off a different ISP, so here is the URL:
http://proxify.com/. Simply enter in the sites url. See if that works, report back here!

Hi,
Yes, the Proxify method worked -- very useful, I'm going to bookmark it -- and the domain-forwarding for my own website works for everyone's else computer BUT mine. Essentially, it's a RoadRunner problem: When I talked to a senior tech there he tried it on their corporate server and it worked beautifully, but when he tried it on a RoadRunner-connected machine he had the same problem I had. He thinks they'll have it fixed on Monday(ish). Well, maybe. Apparently, RoadRunner is having problems with the GoDaddy host. The tech is calling me back soon to see if a workaround is possible in the meantime.
The weird thing is that we can ping the IP no problem, but RoadRunner isn't reading the URL.

Im glad that proxify worked--I had a feeling that it would! I think its time we put this question to rest. If you have any more questions, post back, if not, tell me everything was solved by posting back. Please also take a few minutes to complete feedback on this question. Thanks again!
