Description:
I'm getting DOS doc. files attached to Eudora email messages. Is there a freeware program to help me translate these doc. files to ASCII or simple text?
And if so, where can I get it?

Hello, welcome to No Wonder and thanks for posting your question. My name is Ron and I'll try to help as best I can.

You can use BBEdit Lite which as a text editor is able to open the .doc file. Check it out at:

http://web.barebones.com/free/free.html

Simply launch the application and select Open... from the File menu. You will get a dialog box to navigate to where the document you want to open is located. Make sure that the option for "Any File" is selected... The opened file will have some weird characters in it -due to the formatting- but for the most part you'll be able to read it.

By the way, a *.doc file is a Microsoft Word for Windows document which can be viewed with the Mac version of Word or with ClarisWorks.
