Hi! I have a question about users being able to download music at my website. Right now if I go to my site, once a song fully loads I can Save As Source, or Save As QuickTime Movie.

But I have QuickTime pro... . For PC and mac users without QT pro there's no download option. Is there a way to setup a page with that song file for download? Even for people who don't have QT pro?

Thanks so much!!!

Cheers.

Dear Chris,

My name is Vinko and I will attempt to assist you.

May I presume that you are currently either using the embed HTML tag or you are referencing your music file directly via a HREF link.

Instead you may want to try encoding your song (MP3) file within an archive ike a ZIP file for the download link.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Hi Vinko, it is very kind of you to help.

No, actually I am using iWeb, and I don't know how to embed a file for download. I could zip it up, but don't know how to.

I have iWeb enhancer, if that is helpful, and also Dreamweaver 8. So I'm sure I could get it done. I just need a little assistance!

Thanks so much,

Christopher

Dear Chris,

Thank you for your reply.

Please note that iWeb is a program that is designed for layman web site developer.

Please note that I was using embed as the word rather than the HTML tag "embed". For what you want to do you do not need to use the "embed" tag.

If your music file is called "song.mp3" and your file is stored in the same location as your HTML file, then your HTML code should be:

Download the song

You can accomplish this within iWeb by highlighting some text and click on the "Link" panel (the last one on the right) in the Inspector window, check the checkbox "Enable as a hyperlink", then choose "File" in the Link To popup menu.

I hope this helps.
