Description:
The U.S. Geological Survey is scanning & converting many of their ground maps, including Topographic maps, to DIGITAL RASTER GRAPHICS that can be procured on a CD-ROM.
According to a USGS employee I should be able to open these files with any application that can read & print TIFF files. He suggested that I download a sample file from their Web Page (
http://www.emtc.nbs.gov/) to see if this source of topos is what I'm looking for before I buy the CD-ROMs. Well, after downloading a file I tried to open it with Clarisworks 5.0 and again with ClarisDraw with no success, even after decompressing the file with ZipIt.
My computer is a 233 G3 minitower using OS 8.0. Do you know off hand what I'm doing wrong or what I need in order to open this type of file? Will I need to install SoftWindows or hopefully a less expensive shareware program to make my system compatible?
I'm at a loss and will appreciate any words of wisdom that you might have.
Thanks,
Lane Mead
