Hello, I have lost my Panther Install Disks and I need to install a new subsystem. Is there any place I can download them from? I've looked on www.apple.com forever.

You cannot download OS X installers, only the updates for them. If you've lost your Panther CDs, then your only option is to purchase a new set.

OK, well are there any Backup programs that run on the Apple_HFS subsystem?

If you are going to do a full backup of your OS X installation, then you need to make a bootable clone on an external Firewire drive. The simplest solution is to use the Restore option in Disk Utility. There are numerous backup utilities, however, that can do full and incremental backups such as LaCie SilverKeeper, Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, Synchronize! Pro X, Tri-Backup, and Retrospect.

If you use Disk Utility's Restore option, the process is as follows:

1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
2. Select the startup volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4. Drag the startup volume to the Source entry field.
5. Select the backup volume from the leftside list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
6. Check the box to Erase Destination
7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
