I have an old 450Mhz powerPC G4 with 1GB ram running OSX10.4 and it needs a lot of updates, (over 200MB). I only have a dial-up connection so this will that days. Even downloading each item singly takes 3 or 4 hours and I cannot tie up the phone for that long. Is there any way I can pause the download and go back to it later to continue downloading.

Also, my browser, Safari, is running very slowly. How do I speed it up.

Thank you for any help as I am a PC user and not very familiar with Macs.

Do you know anyone with a high-speed internet connection?
You could use that computer to download your Mac updates from the Apple web site/Support tab, then click the downloads link. Search for the downloads that you need, download, then copy to a CD-R, or a USB flash drive.
Then, copy to your Mac, and install.
Dial-up is getting more challenging, as the updates also get larger.

Safari will naturally run slowly with a dial-up connection, so nothing unusual with that.
