Benny,
I do have a question before I can help. When you download a file with Safari, do you see the download activity window? Does it show you the status of the download?
To get the download activity window, go to the Window Menu and select Downloads. Now try to download a file. What does the activity window show?
Also, how much free space do you have left on your hard drive? To check this, open a finder window and look at the very bottom of the window in the margin. It will show you how many items and how much hard drive is available.
I need the answers to these questions so that I can help solve this problem.

Benny,
Have you designated a download folder? Safari's Preferences under General will show where you have your downloads going to. Check that folder for your downloads.
As for your pdf files being viewed in Safari, you need a pdf plugin. Adobe's Acrobat Reader is not very reliable. I have found that pdf-plugin works well.

As for Quicktime, what version do you presently have installed?

Benny,
Once you have that pdf plugin installed, your pdf files will come up smoothly.
Make sure you read the Read Me file that comes with it. There are instructions on how to turn off Adobe Reader if you have it and QuickTime from reading pdf files.
As for Quicktime, Apple did release a reinstaller to go back to 6.5.2

But I wonder if updating to 7.1.2 would be better -

Benny,
The pdf look is sleeker. It was created because Acrobat Reader is slow and clunky for the developer. It is nice. Remember that if you want to print you need to use the print icon in the tool bar of the pdf document. It is also true with save. Do not use your keyboard to command print or Safari's menus. They won't work.
I know that 7.01 did not work with Pro Tools. I am not sure about 7.1.2.
