I'm a newbie and trying to download a mac game demo (call of duty) once it's downloaded it's telling me there is no default application set and that I need to pick one...well none of them work! I have a new imac g5 and it was set up by a pro who said I would be able to play downloads.....so I now need more help please!!!!!
Hi and welcome to macosx.com
If the file extension is ".sit" or ".hqx", as I saw on Macgames server, they are files compressed under the Stuffit compression software.
The Stuffit archive format is a well known format in the Mac area. Before Tiger, Apple released the free expander StuffitExpander which allows to unzip such archive.
Since Tiger, Apple no longer releases it.
You can download it from here: select StuffitExpander at the left column:
http://www.allume.com/mac/index.html
To make things complicate, Allume has decided
* to bundle the free expander in the StuffitStandard package trial version; so you have to install a trial software to gain acces to the free expander
* to force you to pass, before being able to download, to a panel requiring a valid email adress. Do not enter a junk or fake email, Allume will send to this address a link for download
Last but not least, do not buy their Stuffit stuff: Allume developpers aren't able to make a stable version since the Stuffit 8.x release. So download the trial for the free expander but that's all
Regards
