Im using a G4 with a dual-video card. I recently hooked up a second monitor to it but only see an exact duplicate of the first monitor. I went into System Preferences and into Monitors and there is no mention there of the second monitor (or the Arrangement screen where I can specify which is the primary and which is the secondary). Does this mean I cant do it? Im upgraded to OS10.3.9. HELP!
Hi Rusty,
I checked out some things and it seems that you either have a G4 Digital Audio or a G4 Quicksilver. (Both use the geForce2 mx card)
The two sites below don't mention anything about dual display capability. If a model can use an extended desktop it is explicitly mentioned...

(I have a G4 Quicksilver 2002 (geforece 4mx) and the extended desktop does work with the screens that I have hooked up to it.) Although your graphics card has two ports to connect displays, it does not support dual (extended) display.
My advise would be to have a look on ebay for a newer graphics card. (This is what I plan to do too in the nearer future.) I think that your g4 uses AGP for the graphics card. In that case I would advise you to get a Radeon 9800 (Mac Edition), which is one of the best graphic cards that is still available for the g4. However, if you plan to just work with two displays while not doing anything fancy, just get a geForce4 mx, which is good enough.
The third option is to get a Radeon 9650, which supports the Apple 30" Display. However, this graphic card has a worse chip than the 9800. (It is not that fast, it just supports the big resolution.)
To sum up:
geForce4 MX - dual display capable, nothing fancy
Radeon 9650 (Mac Edition) - only good if you want to go 30"
Radeon 9800 (Mac Edition) - very good card for the g4
The 9800 is my advise, since it definetly the best card; also it will bring up the reselling price for your g4 a lot more....
Tell me if that was of any help...
