my computer kept freezing up when I ran Illustrator. Like an idiot I followed someone's thread message that said dump Adobe Fonts or copy the fonts from the system to the desktop and restart...now it gets to the desktop but only the top bar comes up and flashes.

I've tried starting holding the C down and my tiger install disc. I have no clue what to do and I would have to jump off a bridge if I lose stuff on my computer.

Thanks.

Howdy!

It's unfortunate that you got that bad advice. Normally what you should 'delete' (move them first to your desktop) are the illustrator preference files if it starts acting up.

In order to get you booted up, I suggest Single User Mode:
restart and hold command + s till you see black screen with white text/type fsck -f/type reboot when process finishes.

You should be able to restart again as this will repair your system. If you weren't able to boot up using your system disc your comp may have some bigger issues and I'm not sure just deleting the Illustrator fonts would be the cause.

Do you ever repair your computer's permissions?
