Description:
I have several Stuffit programs and I don't know which ones I need. I think that they are taking up a lot of space. How do I figure out which ones are stuffing applications for me and which ones I don't need? I'do like to trash ones that are not needed. But I want to save the ones that are working for me now. Please help!
Here is what is under Find for Stuffit:

Get StuffIt Expander 8k Anarchie document
StuffIt Deluxe™ 4.0 Updater 654k application program
StuffIt Deluxe™ 4.0 Updater 8k alias
StuffIt Expander Preferences 8k Stuffit expander document
StuffIt Expander™ 212k application program
StuffIt Expander™ 401 Installer 204k application program
StuffIt Expander™ 401 Installer 8k alias
StuffIt Lite Preferences 8k Stuffit Lite document
StuffIt Lite™ 8k alias
StuffIt Lite™ 739k application program
StuffIt Lite™ Folder
Read Me First

The Stuffit Lite 739k application program asks me to register and pay, so I think it might be a duplicate, and is not in use.

Thanks for your assistance. Sue

Sue,
Hi, my name is Ed. I'm a No Wonder volunteer and will try to help answer your question. My email address is .

Basically, you have two Stuffit applications:
- Stuffit Expander, which expands files that have been compressed by Stuffit
- Stuffit Lite, which can be used to compress files
Stuffit Lite is a commercial program that has been downloaded for trial; that's why you are being asked to pay for it.
The files you should retain are:

StuffIt Expander Preferences 8k Stuffit expander document
StuffIt Expander™ 212k application program
StuffIt Lite Preferences 8k Stuffit Lite document
StuffIt Lite™ 739k application program

I'm not sure what the "StuffIt Deluxe™ 4.0 Updater 654k application program" actually is. It sounds as if it might be an updater for a Stuffit Deluxe application which you apparently don't have. (Are you sure it actually says "Updater"?) If you don't have the application, and if this isn't the application, you might as well trash it.

The Stuffit Expander application is actually a freeware program. You might not have the latest version. You can check by going to ZDNet Mac Download at

and entering stuffit as the search string. If what you have is not the lates, trash it and download a new one.

Good luck,
ed
