I found this problem when trying to backup a dvd using Mac the Ripper. I burned the dvd because it has always just worked before, and when I tried it on my player there was no sound. I re-extracted the dvd and looked in the the folder where I had put it and there wasn't any files in the "Audio TS" folder. Then I looked in the actually dvd icon and it wasn't recognizing any files in the "Audio TS" there either. The weird part is I can still play the dvd on my computer without any audio problems. If you have any ideas about what the problem is or how to correct it I would really appreciate the assistance.

Scott, welcome to macosx.com

Except if you have selected individual streams, MTR produces an empty AUDIO_TS folder: the soundtracks are included within the .vob files extracted in the VIDEO_TS folder.
A proof of that is when you drag the VIDEO_TS folder to Apple's DVD player or VLC, they play the movie with the sound.
The AUDIO_TS folder, even empty, is compulsory to ensure compatibility with VCD.
There is an option in MTR to copy all the extra folders and files (AUDIO_TS, JACKET_P, DVD-ROM stuff, etc.) from the DVD after it’s done ripping the VIDEO_TS folder. Those extra files and folders aren’t necessary to make a working DVD video, but it doesn’t hurt. You can uncheck this option if you only want the VIDEO_TS folder, or
wish to copy the rest manually.

Now, the main questions are:
* what have been on the ripped DVD
* and how do you burn the VIDEO_TS folder to another DVD

(1) after ripping a DVD with MTR, you have to transcode the VIDEO_TS folder (through Popcorn or DVD2oneX) in order to make a DVD playable on a home dvd player

(2) if your rip a DVD made by someoneelse, mainly on Windows, perhaps has your friend coded the movie into a AVI/Divx/Xvid file format. MTR will extract them 'as it'. If you use VLC to play the movie from the VIDEO_TS folder, many chances that VLC has the right codec to play it; less -very less- chances that Apple's DVD player will be able to use the folder
Then, if you burn the VIDEO_TS file containing such divx file WITHOUT REENCODING them (using an external tool like Toast/PopCorn/Handbrake), and if your home dvd player is not able to play divx file, no chance to hear the sound..a few chances to watch the movie

(3) if you extract individual streams with MTR, you cannot use the files on a DVD: you have to mix the movie and the sound parts in a .vob file playable on home DVD

Now, what do you have change in your way or f processing so that it works in the past, but not now ?
