I am runnig a 1.8 GHz Power PC G5 version 10.4.7
I was attempting to burn a project on iDVD, I have done this many times with no problems, when the multiplexor error appeared. I tried to burn my font folder, lots of data, on a dvd and recieved the 0x8002006D error. How do i determine if I have a hardware or software issue. Im guessing hardware :<

Hi and welcome to macosx.com

Well, in most of the cases, this error means... unsupported superdrive... whihc, I guess, does not delight you. So.

First of all, I would repair permissions through Applications/Utilities/DiskUtility

(1) go you redo the problem, then just after, launch the Applications/Utilities/Console and browse the logs to see if a more complete message exists.

(2) if the message sepaks about "Calibration error", could you simply us a CD lens cleaner to clean the lens: sometimes this simple tip helps.

(3) does this occurs only for DVD ? What about burning simple data/music CD ? Could try to burn a music CD directly from within iTunes ? And burning a CD through Finder(s burning facility ?

(4) I would also try different media in case of.

(5) I would also download the BurnXfree freeware and try to burn a simple data CD with this tool

Why all these ? To detect the software or hardware origin of the problem..

* if "iTunes" + "different media" + 'finder burning' fails but not "burnxfree", I would think to a software problem >>> download the 10.4.7 COMBO et re-apply it over your existing running 10.4.7
* otherwise, if all the tips fail, I would think to a hardware problem...but I'm not sure at all: I never hear of a PM G5 SD failure, even in the rev.A series like yours.

Regards
Philippe

Last but not least: in my database, I have a similar issue on a imac G4 Flat Panel; a Finder 'force-quit' solves the issue; but this is a unique case of such a surprising solution

I have a backup hard drive with the same operating system. I tried to burn from this drive and it worked fine. So I guess this is a software problem. What file do i need to look for in my system that could be causing this. Should I reinstall os10 from the original disk and upload all of the upgrades? Should I just reinstall Ilife? I downloaded 10.4.7 combo with no apparant affect. Music CD no problems, CD-R or RW no problems. Thanks for you help.

I will cloned back your backup drive onto your internal drive using Diskutility/Restore function

Otherwise, in such cases, I would not attemp an Archive&Install or equivalent: my way is to zero the drive, re-install the original X from cds, jump to 10.4.7 with the COMBO, re-install iLife and 3rd party stuffs
