I must point out that these actions can be considered as illegal, although I do understand the need to backup DVD's. I would hate to lose my entire collection of DVD's as well.

There are several ways and programs that will copy DVD's. If the DVD is protected, and you own it. Simply use a program called MacTheRipper located at www.versiontracker.com. Once the DVD has been stored on your computer, I would suggest using a program called Popcorn to compress the DVD (very good quality). And store it on another DVD (note: They will never be 100% quality with all the features).

You can also use a program called HandBrake found here http://handbrake.m0k.org/ which rips and encodes the movie into a .mp4 format. You can then use Popcorn, or other programs to burn out the QuickTime file, or store them on your iPod.

If you have any other questions please let us know.

Thanks,
Paul

Not sure if your able to see this, but here is some extra information from another Tech.

TECH NOTE: Just a another note: You can olsy copy dvd´s to your hard drive by simple selecting the dvd in the desktop and while pressing alt dragging it to your selected location. Then at anythime you can burn it to dvd, for example with program called toast.

Thanks,

Thanks for the advice. I have purchased Popcorn and have the zoftware to copy onto mac. Now I have another problem! I can do the first few steps and then it asks me to insert the blank media to burn to, I insert the disks into the drive and it throws them back out! I have tried DVD + R and DVD - R but no joy! Any ideas where I am going wrong?

Thanks!

Are you able to burn disks using the OS X operating system? I'm just trying to figure out if your having troubles with the software itself, or with the operating system.

Thanks,
Paul
