I recently purchased a power mac pc 7455 g4 desktop 933mhz. I place a dvd into the tray but after the tray accepts the dvd, the dvd player will not open on the screen. It sounds like it is trying to read the disk but nothing. To check the quality of the dvd, I placed it into my old ibook clamshell 466 and the dvd player opened and played the disc without incident. When I click on the cd/dvd icon in hardware, it is set to open dvd player when a dvd is inserted. Additionally , I placed a music cd into the tray and it opened up itunes as it was instructed to do in hardware setting and played the cd with no problem. The only thing I have not tried yet, because I dont have one, is to try to place a different dvd into the tray to see if it will play. I guess I feel that since I proved to myself that the disc will play in another computer, it isnt the disc. Any help will be appreciated.
Check your system preferences from the Apple menu, in the CD/DVD make sure it is selected to open the DVD player when you incert a DVD.
you can also put in the DVD, let it mount on the desktop and then open the DVD player and play it.
Take care
