Hello! My name is Woodrow, I'm not super tech savy, but I feel pretty knowledgable about the basics of getting around my G5. My question is this: My DVD Player application has started to not read my burned DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs. The burned discs are half movies I made on Final Cut Pro and iMovie and the other half are back ups of my commercial DVDs which I burned using the program Roxio Popcorn. I think Roxio Popcorn is the cause of the problem because my mac used to play my burned DVDs before I installed Popcorn and now it doesn't. I stick a DVD in the tray and close the tray, then the G5 makes a bunch of soft noises like it is trying to read it and after 10-15 seconds the tray opens up. There is no alert or anything, it just will not read it. Anyway, I hope this was detailed enough. I hope you can help. Thanks!

I find that this thing only happens when I insert a non-Region 2 DVD into my iBook. The disc pops out.
Possible Solutions:
1.Try playing your DVD using VLC Media Player. It tends to play 90% of video files.
Just Google for "VLC Player" or use this link:
http://www.videolan.org/mirror.html?...vlc-0.8.4a.dmg
2. Uninstall Roxio Popcorn and then try playing your DVDs. If they work now, then we know the root of the problem.
3. Try playing your DVDs on another Mac and see if we encounter the same problem. If we don't then the problem is unique with your Mac.
4. Try playing some other commercial DVDs in the Mac. Do they work? If they do, then the problem is with the burned DVDs.

Dear Muhammad A.,
Thank you very much for trying to help me, I just had a quick question because my DVD Player Application is still not working with burned DVDs that used to work on the same computer.
1. I have already tried using VLC Media Player and it does not play the movie. Under the file type it says all my burned DVDs are DVD://nav, I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
2. I can play ALL the burned DVDs that don't work on my computer on every other mac I've tried, so it is a problem only with my mac.
3. Commercial DVDs do work.
4. Regarding uninstalling Roxio Popcorn, I definetely think it is the problem, but I feel a little stupid because I can't figure out how to uninstall it. Do I need to put the install disc back in? Is there a mac application specially for uninstalling things?
Thanks for the help.

In order to uninstall Roxio Popcorn, all you do is select the Roxio Popcorn folder/application from Applications in Finder and drag it to trash. Type in the administrator password and it will be deleted!

I uninstalled Roxio Popcorn and the tray still spits the DVD out without playing it. What else should I do?

Try burning this DVD again onto another DVD. Then insert this DVD and see if you encounter the same problem.

Well the problem isn't just with one DVD it doesn't read 3 different brands of DVD (Apple DVDs, Memorex, Staples) and I've tried 20 different movies on an assortment of those brands, which all don't work so I don't think it is a problem just with the DVD or with the brand. I'm sorry if what you are suggesting is different than that and I just didn't understand it, if it is I'll burn a specific DVD again if you want me to do a more controlled experiment. Thanks

Yes, what I meant was burn some information(songs, videos, photos etc) onto a DVD and then see whether it works with your system.

Hi, sorry that took so long. I burned a fresh DVD with a quicktime movie on it. As soon as I put the burned disc into the computer again, it would not read it.

Take this "DVD with a quicktime movie" and insert it into another Mac and another Windows computer. Does it work?
If it doesn't, then your DVD drive is faulty. It doesn't burn discs properly. Take it down to the nearest Apple Store or call up Apple.
If it does work, then your OS doesn't burn the discs properly. You may have to reinstall Mac OS X.
