TICKET ARCHIVE -> DVD Player woes aplenty

Hi guys. I was hoping for a little help. The last couple of days my DVD Player app won't launch. It comes up on the screen for a couple of seconds followed by the unexpectedly quit dialog. I don't THINK I've done anything recently that might have tweaked something with my system that would take out the player, but the way I am I can't give any guarantees.

What I have is the crash log, but I'm not adept at deciphering any useful knowledge from them. I did the traditional things like deleting prefs and repairing permissions, but I'm sure it's going to take a little more than that. I'm going to paste the crash log at the end and my hope is that one of you brilliant folks might be able to offer some suggestions as to the nature of my problem, or at least some kind of workaround.

I'm open to try most anything, so feel free to hit me with your best shots. Thanks!

Anyone think the VLC player might be a culprit? I upgraded to 0.6a last night, but that didn't seem to change anything. Anything I might check as far as VLC goes that might be an area of suspicion? I'm just stabbing in the dark as to the culprit and since VLC is a video player...who knows?

Hi Gary,

I don't now what the solution might be, but you could use VLC to watch any DVDs in the mean time till everything is fixed, but I don't think it has something to do with VLC, I have it and it works fine with Apple's DVD Player and I have the 0.8.6 update, so this really could be anything. I'm gonna re-open this issue again for other techs - someone will surely have a solution.
But you could also check Apple Knowledge Base.
Just giving ideas...

Don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, but if it might shed further light on the issue I thought I'd mention it anyway. It appears now that my address book won't launch as well. It hives one hop in the dock and the computer pretends I didn't really want any addresses and ignores my request to launch. They seem pretty unrelated, but who knows? Once again, I defer to your superior knowledge and taste in fine computers.

could you try to move to your Desktop the Macam Quicktime component (found in " > Library > Quicktime) and see if DVD player launches fine ? (Yes, your cam will certainly not be longer recognised, but it is for a test)
