are there any dvd rippers that rip to .dv files apart from cinematize? cinematize doesnt seem to be able to cope with anything longer than 10 mins...

Yes, in fact there is and I have been using it for quite some time. It's called VisualHub. I use this with MacTheRipper. So, after ripping from MacTheRipper, put it into VisualHub to get your .dv file.
