I recently purchased a download copy of "Popcorn" from roxie for $50 thinking that would allow me to make backup copies of my DVD movies.........wrong.
I haven't had much success searching for an OS-X decryption or ripping software that will allow me to accomplish my goal . Any suggestions....would prefer freeware or shareware.
I have two G4's, a PB and a minimac and an external Pioneer 16x16 DVD burner. Had to copy the original driver mini CD to a standard size CD to install in the Mac.
The mini has lots of space left on the HD and is running v10.4.3
Thanks,
William

This one is pretty easy. The gold standard of mac ripping is "Mac the Ripper." http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22715

I have also had good luck with "DVD Backup."http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/10757

Neither of them is perfect, but one always seems to work for me when the other doesn't. Use Popcorn to open the VOB files and then...Happy Ripping!

Thanks Jim,
Downloaded "Mac the Ripper".
When I went to the other link http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/10757 and clicked on download now.... it took me to http://www.opuscc.com/download/FTP/C...DBackup1.3.sit which is under construction.
Anyway, I Copied the DVD movie, the VOB warning box came up twice, I clicked on "Delete Vob" and when the copying was finished it said to play the new files before burning as it may not play. I made a new desktop folder with 2-VIDEO_TS Doc's and 6 doc's; VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_0.VOB, VTS_01_1.VOB,
VTS_01_2.VOB, AND VTS_01_5.VOB
When I try to open any of the above doc's, I get "the application cannot be found" dialog.....can't access iMovie, popcorn didn't seem to help....
Now What!
Thanks,
William

Ouch! This all sounds more complicated than it should be. Insert your DVD. Open Mac the Ripper. Rip the entire disc to your hard drive. Open Popcorn and choose the option to open the file from your hard drive (I can't remember...does it say "DVD file" or VOB file...whichever one isn't the disc or image). That should be it. Sometimes if I think there's a hitch with my burner, I'll have Popcorn save to an image file, then burn the image file later. But it really shouldn't matter.

Try again, and let me know if there's a hangup. On some discs there is a "wrapper" that can confuse the ripping program.Still, it shouldn't be this complicated.
