I have a PowerBook G4 - Mac OSX 10.4.8 and am currently using it in China. I have 3 questions regarding the CD/DVD player.

(1) The DVD country code can be changed up to 5 times. Being in China I use various country code DVDs. Is there a way to allow the computer to continue to play various country codes? My wife's Gateway is unlimited, so if Mac is able to do it 5 times, can it not continue to do so?

(2) It seems my Mac is pickier about what CD and DVDs it is willing to play and burn. Again in China I can't always get the best quality CD-R and DVD-R, and then the Mac refuses to accept them, whereas again, my wife's Gateway seems to have no problem. I'm wondering if it is just my Mac that is having these problems or is it a standard thing with Apple, and what can be done?

(3) When the CD/DVD player does not play the discs, sometimes it will not eject them, and just continues to try and run for a long time - is there a command I can do to force eject?

Thank you very much for your help

Hi and welcome to macosx.com

(1) VLC (wwww.videolan.org) is a free video player which much (much) capabilities than the Apple one and can read DVDs from other regions without requesting the change of the region.
On Mac, the last change (so the 5th one) will be the latest and you'll be stuck on the last region
A solution (what I do) is to rip the DVD on the disk (using some tools I cannot speak about on this forum) and use VLC to play the movie from the disk

(2) mac SD are very supsicious on the DVD quality and the good quality change from machine to machine. In my case, I can burn with no error -never- on on TDK DVD-R (while BenQ, Fujistsu or Agfa failed around 1 over 5). For CDs, TDK fails one over 2 (!) but BenQ or Agfa no

(3) to force eject a CD/DVD, reboot the Mac while holding the mouse (left) key until the cd pops uout.

Regards
Philippe
