Hi all,
I'm not very handy with my computer.
I have an eMAC osx 10.2.8 256 memory 800MHz G4.
I purchased a iomega super dvd/cd burner. After succesful instalation I tried to view a dvd. The message read dvd encountered a serious error a valid dvd drive could not be found(-70012).
I have never played a dvd on my eMAC. I didn't think I could. I checked my applications folder under devices/forms and showed CD-ROM.
I tried unpluging the iomega an still got the same message.
As a added note I'm going to add another 256 memory and would like to upgrade system to tiger.
What to do next?
Thank You, Mike
Hi Mike! If I've understood right, you have never had a dvd player in your eMac, am I right? The dvd player application works only with internal drives, and I think yours is external. Dvd video playback requires internal dvd players linked with IDE connection (the standard one). This is whay it says that no valid dvd-player is found.
Let me know if you need additional assistance. Bye!!
Hey Mike! Maybe I expressed myself badly. I was just wondering if you had had an internal dvd player (the hardware).
I'm sorry to say that, but there's no way to directly play dvds from your external dvd drive.
Maybe you can rip them to your hard disk and watch them, but I'm not sure if you can do this action, because I never performed a rip from an external drive.
Try to use the app "MactheRipper" that you can find at versiontracker.com, save your dvd movie to your hard disk and try to open it with Apple dvd player (the application) by selecting "open VIDEO_TS". See if it works. Let me know. Bye!!
