Description:
I am having problems sending e-mail attachments from my Mac to the dark side(PC users). They often can't open or read my correspondence. I am using Outlook Express. I have my attachment encoding set for UUEncode. Is Base64 a better choice? Which encoding is most similar to the MIME format that the PC seems best suited for? Please help! Thanks, JP
Send Attachments?
Good morning, Jeff --
Macs need MIME encoding and PCs generally require "uuencoding". As an example, Netscape Communicator v4.5 gives you opportunity to encode your attachments either way before you send the messages.
To paraphrase what I have just said. if you are sending photo files from a Mac to a PC you are most likely to have your friends open them with PCs if they are "uuecoded". Conversely, if your friends are using PCs you will find that if they send their pictures MIME encoded then you willfind it easy to open them.
If you occasionally get pictures from friends that you cannot open, I suggest you dowload Lemke's Graphic Converter. It is shareware (I think he is asking US$35 or $40 currently). He is a German in Germnany and he has a very well respected photo shareware which will be the best, low cost investment you will ever make for your Mac if you enjoy photo files.
Most of the Mac web sites such as
http://www.mac.download.com
and
http://www.versiontracker.com
can lead you to Lemke's web site if you search for "Graphic Converter". It is only available for Macs. It can convert, display and save over a seventy five different photo file types. Absolutely great shareware!
