Hello, I am purchasing a Mac and I want to edit feature lengths (~2 hour) movies with Final cut pro.

Do you think thes specs would be enough space to take care of the job? I am worried I won't have enough space or my computer will be really slow especially when rendering.

IMAC
MEMORY 2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
HARD DRIVE 500GB Serial ATA drive

If this is not enough, can you give me some recommendations?

Also, once I get the computer and all of the software. What kind of firewire cable should I use to connect the camera to the Computer and receive my footage for editing with Final Cut Pro.

Also, would you happen to know if the IMAC automatically comes with iDVD, if so does iDVD let you create your own dvd menus. I really appreciate your help! Thanks

That's the same configuration I'm recommending to a friend for that purpose. It should be a well-performing alternative to a PowerMac G5.

If you're concerned about disk space, you'll probably want to invest in an external hard disk. Depends on just how much video you'll be working with at a time and how much you want to store vs. burn. Most cameras have a 4-pin FireWire/iLink/IEEE1394 port, so you need a 4-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable.

iDVD is part of the iLife package that comes with every new Mac. It allows you to create menus based on themes/templates, but not customize your own. That's a feature of DVD Studio Pro, which you'll get as part of the Final Cut Studio package. (Final Cut Pro is no longer available by itself.)
