hi,
i uses a local made DVD RW with an external enclosure that supports both USB & Firewire. I uses it on my iMac 1.6Ghz & PB 15 1.33Ghz both running on Tiger 10.4.6, which perform very well.
But I ancountered same error while using the firewire DVD RW on 3 fren' s eMac (700, 800 & 1Ghz). eMac 700 running on OX 9.2 can only burn blank cd, can view DVD; the other 2 eMac running on OS 10.3.9 can only view cd & dvd but can't burn any blank cd & dvd, tried restart & all but still cant.. there's an error window "The disc could not be used because the media is not supported. (error code 0x8XXXXXXXXXX)"
In the system profiler of the eMacs, at the Firewire sub manu it shows "Disc Burning: Not Supported"
need help!!!
Hi Eric,
My name is Charlie. I'm here to help you with your problem.
Prior to 10.4, Mac OS X only supported CD/DVD writers that shipped with Macs. The only way for 3rd party writers to work is to have special drivers written by the manufacturer (e.g. LaCie), or use 3rd party disc burning software such as Toast or NTI DragonBurn (
http://www.roxio.com/en/products/toast/ or
http://www.ntius.com/default.asp?p=d...urn1&ver=trial)
Fortunately there is a workaround for OS X 10.2 and 10.3, and that is PatchBurn. You can download it at
http://www.patchburn.de/
For OS 9 the situation is a little trickier. OS 9 doesn't have built-in DVD burning support (DVD writers didn't exist back then), so you're stuck with 3rd party burning software. The link to NTI DragonBurn I provided above is for OS 9, and while Toast 5 supports OS 9, I'm not sure how you can legally obtain a copy. eBay might be a good place to start, though.
Let me know if you need more assistance.
Charlie
