OS Version: System 7.x
Description:
I have a Classic II and I would like to hook it up to a modem and use Juno or someone else (for email for free and without internet access) so my parents could use it for emailing us. Is this possible? What do I need for a modem? It doesn't need to be a fast one. Where would I find Juno's email program? Would Juno's email program work on a Classic II? Do you have any other advice for me to pull this off?

Dear kpete,
Juno's software only works with Windows.
You could try hotmail:
www.hotmail.com. This offers free email, but you will have to put up with spamming. Your system may be too old to use it anyway.
Another alternative is to add an existing email account to your current Internet or AOL account. It is slightly more expensive, but both accounts will be under the same domain, resulting in less technical problems.
There are places that offer free Internet access along with email. However, I have read rumors that many are going bankrupt.
For equipment, get as much memory as your computer can handle. Also use the lastest OS software that is compatible with your computer. You should be using at least System 7.5.
For a modem, stick with a standard 28 or 33.6 modem. That is more than adequate for email. For software, you can use Eudora Lite 3.1 which is available for free at
www.eudora.com. It doesn't use much memory and is only 2mb in size. Make sure you have plenty of disk space as well. If not purchase a small hard drive.
