Description:
I am using a Astra 1220 scanner to scan pictures, using Adobe Photo Deluxe.
I have cropped the picture, and converted it into JPEG. However, when I email the
picture as an attachment in Netscape, it
will attach and mail, but will not open.
I have used a digital camera at work to do
exactly this many times, using JPEG form, and the pictures travel beautifully. What
am doing wrong? The only difference is the input device, the scanner, and it is supposed to be converting the picture
into JPEG. Is there a better form to use?
I am sending the picture to users of Macs
and Windows, and JPEG has always opened
before. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,

Hello Mary Lynn,
When you send pictures from a Mac to a PC user you have to realize that Macs need MIME formatted pictures and PCs need "uuencoded" pictures. It is wise to always utilize a picture file name which ends in <.jpg> for both. I would also make sure for PC users that you conform to the old requirement of naming the file with an eight character prefix (not more since many PCs are still cannot recognize longer file names. Example of a wise choice:
NOT .
Also when using Netscape Communicator 4.5 you will notice that you can specifically choose to encode pictures for MIME or "uuencode" by looking closely at the wide menu bar just above the e-mail template and notice if yu click on it the left end changes and reveals a place to choose the encoding you wish.
I make sure to seperate my e-mails for PC and Mac users due to the fact that som many have told me that they cannot open attachments I have sent in the past.
Incidentally, JPG and GIF formats are the best to use for attachments. BMP also works with PCs only. Lemke's Graphic Converter is a useful shareware (USA$35.00 for Mac users to have since it opens up almost any kind of photo attachment.
