DESCRIPTION:

I am using Windows 95 and Microsoft Exchange, Version 4 mail program. When I Email friends that are using AOL or CompuServe, they tell me that my Emails have 'headers' and garbage following my message. My local server tech support tells me that the headers/garbage show because I am attaching a file to every Email that my computer sends and AOL and CompuServe mail programs do not know how to interpret the information, so it shows the attachment in raw text. The file is shown as follows:

---------------------------------------
Part 1.2 Type: application/ms-tnef
Encoding: base 64

I have gone through all settings with local tech support, yet the headers and garbage still show on my Email to AOL and CompuServe friends. I would like to have this file feature removed.

Do you have any suggestions?

Peggy, welcome to No Wonder,

I am Nikorn, and I would like to suggest that you use other popular Internet email clients instead of MS Exchange which is mainly used by people working for companies with private email system such as Exchange Server.

After you have gone through all setting with your ISP tech support, and I assume that you have not attached any file to your messages, so the content of MS Exchange mail message must have triggered AOL and Compuserve mail systems to believe that there were attachments using Base 64 Encoding and start decoding the plain text message into garbage looking text.

Standard Internet email clients are available for free download, take your pick, Microsoft Outlook Express, Netscape Mail, Eudora Lite, etc.
