Mac is 1GHZ, flat panel iMac, 768 m RAM, OS 10.4.2
The whole Mac hangs up when trying to email a photo directly from iPhoto. I have to unplug the Mac to get it to restart. The rest of iPhoto seems OK, but I am not a sophisticated user.
My son did a clean install when upgraded from 10.3.9 to Tiger. All else seems OK, even the two printers and the one scanner (after driver updates).
Thank you,
Larry Staples

Larry,
Thank you for using macosx.com
Could you follow the advices in this excellent article about troubleshooting iPhoto:
http://homepage.mac.com/butlers/iPho...or/rebuild.htm
Especially, as the first steps in diagnosing your ptoblem:
(1) repair permissions
(2) rebuild the iPhoto's database
Please feel free to post back your tests/tries.
Regards
Philippe

I repaired disk permissions and the iPhoto library per your suggestion. The problem persists. I also ran Disk Warrior 3.0.3.
I have read that this is a frequent problem for others too. There is a work-around, in that Mail will let me reduce the resolution of pictures I attach to a message. Photo editing seems to be OK. Under Panther this was a very convenient feature.
Perhaps 10.4.3 will fix this.
Thanks, Phillip for your suggestions.

Larry,
Iphoto -> Share -> Export..let's you to scale photos to be exported.
Of course, scaled exported photos are not within iPhoto but they can be used for email's attachment.
However, I have no problem with iPhoto email capability on my G5 10.4.2

Phillip, I guess you are fortunate and I am not. Thanks for the iPhoto->Share->Export tip!
I guess I could also buy Graphics Converter and trash iPhoto. There is no hurry as long as I have other ways to scale the photos.
Thanks, again, Phillip.

Well Larry
To be honest
(1) I use GC for years for manipulating my images
(2) I use iViemedia (Pro release, because I'm luck my boss offered me this license for doing office job at home) for cataloging my photos images.
A last remark: clean your iPhoto library if you want (by deleting all the photos from inside iPhoto) but DO NOT trash the iPhoto application.
Last year, I spent hours with a friend which cannot install one of the 10.3.x update (cannot remember which one). We discovered that this **** installer failed because it tried to update something related to iPhoto and iPhoto wasn't anymore in the Applications folder
Same with iMovie and iDvd.
Good luck and enjoy your mac
Regards
Phil
