What are the best (free) programs for cracking CSS encryptions and compressing DVDs? I already have Fast DVD Copy, but i need something for the other steps.
Depending on where in the world you are located, it can be illegal. That said, search Google for "MacTheRipper" their site keeps moving due to Macrovision threatening their web hosts. Their public forum is here -
http://www.ripdifferent.com/phpbb2/index.php. They are working on a new release soon.
Compression is hard to find free or complicated to use if found (Linux utilities on the command line). The commercial compression program Roxio Popcorn works the best on the Mac. However, you will be better off getting a Dual Layer DVD burner then you won't have to compress the DVD. DL = 8.5GB's verses DVD-R = 4.3GB's. You can find DL DVD drives here:
http://www.mcetech.com/ for PowerMac G4/G5's and even laptops.
Disclaimer: I am in no way endorsing the theft of intellectual property, you should own the DVDs that you copy and you should not distribute DVDs you don't own. Owner does not equal purchased license to view. i.e. just because you bought a DVD does not mean you own it. You only own the right to view it. The original content is still owned by the copywrite holder. You are not authorized to make your own copies in some countries (cough, USA).
