I was on a long plane ride when I got the ugly message that my database was corrupt (happens about every month or two). Have a large DB file - about 18GB.

Started DB repair on the plane, but had to quit before it was done. When I logged in at home, it kept going so I thought all was fine.

However, when it announced it was done, I tried but cannot get Entourage to launch. Message I receive: Microsoft Entourage cannot load the Microsoft Office Shared Libraries. Files may have been moved from original locations. Try:
- move Entourage back to Microsoft Office folder (or where it was originally installed). NOTE: Entourage is in the Microsoft Office folder in Applications -- where it's always been.

- Reinstall Entourage to make sure all files are installed correctly. (I just installed Microsoft Office 2004 - this did not help).

After the Shared library message, I also get: the application Entourage quit unexpectedly... Mac OSX and other applications not affected. All my other Microsoft apps start up just fine.
Am running OS version 10.4.10 and Entourage version 11.3.6

I looked into the long report message:
Saw: Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (1X0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE

Thanks in advance for any help !!
Am thinking Mac Mail may be a better bet -- will this app be upgraded over time to include better features?
Diane

I have done the following without luck:
1) Rebuilt database twice.
2) Compacted database.
3) Tried Entouraid, but error happened after 500 messages - twice.
4) Removed database from User Identities folder. Entourage started up, so this means it's the database that is the issue.

Hello ddudeck

thanks for using MacOSX.Com - I would like to say I think I can help you but to be honest you have already done a fair bit...

I am surprised you let your database get so big! I always try to keep my live DB under 2Gb - partly because historically it would implode at 1.99Gb anyway... Much like yours seems to have done now. (Apparently Entourage 2004 has no size limit on the DB, but it does have a file storage limit of 2 million items, due to the way it stores mail this means about 1 million messages, less with attachments I beleive.

If Entouraid can't help you I am very afraid you may be in a world of hurt...

There are some tips on how to manually salvage stuff from a mangled Entourage DB using BBEdit or similar floating about the net... In fact I read an article on it recently (of course I can't find it now - I will keep looking for you). But that would be a long tedious and not pleasant task. I hope you have recent backups.

Not worth getting pieces of messages, given i get about 200 or so emails a day. The entouraid recovered pieces of a few, but not really anything usable. Would take a year to piece it all back to gehter.

Thanks anyway... Am now using Mail. so far so good.

Sorry I couldn't be more help in this instance...

Do you wish me to re-open the ticket in case any other Techs can help more? Or should I just close it?

Sorry again that I couldn't be more helpful.

Moving on from Microsoft's email app... So no need to keep ticket open. Thank you for trying to help but I feel we've exhausted all options...
