Hi,
I have the only mac in a windows server run network, which until now was not a problem. From one day to the other I am not able to access the local sites set up on the server (ie
http://companyweb/). I am the network administrator and also have set up all the sites myself, and I have not made any changes. All PCs (XP) are able to access those local sites.
I am able to access the server and its shared folders though. And also able to connect through Remote Desktop Connection.
Also, the Schedule in the System preferences keeps resetting, so that my mac does not turn on automatically in the morning.
It is quite strange.

At a guess, check your DNS settings on the Mac.
• Does the Mac us the same DNS server as the PCs?
• Can you resolve
http://companyweb using the lookup tab in the Network Utility?
• When you access the shared folders or Remote Desktop, are you accessing the name or the IP address?
As for the schedule reset, I believe that system settings like that are still retained in PRAM powered by the PRAM battery. If that has lost charge then the machine "forgets" those settings between reboots.

thanks for your response.
i've checked the dns settings and everything seems fine, i am automatically getting an ip address allocated from the server.
no, it does not resolve in Network Utility.
when accessing shared forlders I use afp:// and the IP address. As for Remote Desktop I use the IP address as well.
many thanks for your help

OK, so it is a DNS issue
For some reason, your DHCP is not providing the Mac with a DNS server.
The easiest way to get it to work is to set it manually:
• Get the DNS server info from one of the PCs by running IPCONFIG /ALL in a command window.
• On the Mac open SYSTEM PREFERENCES / NETWORK and put the same IP addresses into the DNS server field for your connection. Use a comma to separate multiple addresses.
• Press APPLY NOW
You shouldn't need to restart or anything "Windows" like that.
