Randy,

About the only method for DVD would be to use an application called HandBrake (which is free, I believe) and you can extract a whole DVD to a mpg file, then you can your application of choice for getting sections of a DVD out of it. If you want to burn the DVD (ie copy the DVD) to another DVD, then you'd need to use something like MactheRipper to get the data off the DVD and store it onto your hard drive, then an application like Popcorn to burn it back to DVD in a playable format. Of course, the Handbrake method and then using iDVD could work as well, I suppose.

Audio should be easy, you should be able to import those in via iTunes, and access them through iDVD. If you want to get sound bits from MP3s or AAC files, then you can use Sound Edit or like minded application to edit those files up.

I hope this answers your question, if not let me know either way.

hi Scott,
thanks for the reply. i just want to confirm a few things.
i can extract a whole movie with HandBrake - is it intel leopard compatable? can i then import it from handbrake into iMovie?
once i get an audio track extracted with iTunes, can i take that file into iMovie, or do i have to use iDVD to put it together with a video track?

thanks

randy

Handbrake is leopard compatible. It will import the video and audio from a DVD. I thought you where taking audio tracks from an audio CD.
