Hello!

I have FCP version 4.5 and use OS X version 10.4.11 in my G4, when I capture, I experience a problem of things freezing up and crashing on me after about 4 1/2 to 5 minutes.

I've been told by people that it could be my Quicktime as I've got 7.4.1 in my computer. I've searched and searched and have been unable to find programs to reinstall Quicktime 6.5.4 to see if that would fix my problem.

What do I do???

I can't be 100% sure, but it definitely sounds like the version of Quicktime that you are running, especially with that old of a version of FinalCut, is causing the problem. This was a common issue.

To downgrade to version 7.3.1, follow these steps:

"The easiest method is to use Pacifist. Download Pacifist (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743) and install it, then download the version of QuickTime 7.3.1 for your system:

* QuickTime 7.3.1 for Tiger [10.4.11]
(http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...1fortiger.html)

Drag the QuickTime 7.3.1 package onto the Pacifist icon, or choose "Open Package" from the File menu in Pacifist and select the QuickTime pacakge.

With the package open, select its name (the top entry in Pacifist), click "Install" and follow the on-screen prompts, making sure the "Use Administrator Privileges" box is checked."

I hope that this works for you. Please let me know if you have any problems with this.

Please do forgive me as I've not had the chance to check things out as of yet (wife & daughter have kept me hopping). I will certainly E-mail once I have been able to try things out.

BTW, is there a way to re-install Quicktime 6.5.4?

I've experienced problems with version 7 of Quicktime & I have to bring things down to version 6.5.4 this way, my videos won't freeze & I can still make mpeg-4s.

How can I go about getting 6.5.4 in my computer

That's going to be a lot trickier. Have you been able to run Quicktime 6.5.4 with the version of OS that you are running? Everything that I have seen says that you cannot run Quicktime 6 (any version) with Tiger 10.4 (any version). And your first post stated that you were running 10.4.11.
Did you try reverting to 7.3.1?
If you definitely need to back to 6.5.4, I believe that you are going to have to re-install your entire system and go back to Panther, but please let me know if you had been successful with Quicktime 6 and Tiger.
If you do decide to re-install your system, make a backup of the one you are currently on. That way, you do at least have a system with Tiger.
