Hi macosx,

Hopefully you can help me.
When I export to Quicktime from FCP I end up with a Final Cut Reference movie and not a Quicktime movie.
According to Larry Jordan website the answer is to deselect the "Make movie self contained" box and then export to QT.
I've tried it with this button selected and deselected with the same result.

Please help me.

thanks,
Mike

Hi, Mike,
Unfortunately, this is the way you either make it a fully contained movie or a reference movie.
Just out of curiosity, how are you determining that it is a reference movie and not a Quicktime movie? They both look about the same, but one may be much larger than the other. (The reference file should be much smaller.)
Could you also let me know which version of FCP you are using?

In a pinch, you could open up the movie (reference or otherwise) in Quicktime and export that way as well.

Let me know and we'll get to the bottom of it.

Hey Leigh,

Thank you for your quick response.
The Quicktime and FCP reference files have a similar icon but in the Finder Window I listed the details.
I will try your suggestion of opening the clip in Quicktime and exporting from there.

I'll let you know if it works.

Thanks Again.
