Installing updates & installation goes to expanding & verifying & stalls--this is on my older mac ibook--special edition green--running 10.3.9--does not matter if i try 1 part of update or all at once--will not go past first attempt & then stalls. The only way i can remove the update screen is by forcing the computer to shut down by holding down the start button until it quits--restarts fine.
thanks-----mike.

Mike,
Sometimes the Software Update looses a packet of information in the download. A missing part of the download will cause a stall.
Go to Home>Library>Caches and open the Software Update folder. If there are any files in there, delete them.
Now go to hard drive>Library>Preferences. Locate and delete the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file.
Now close the windows, empty the trash.
This should correct the problem.
