First of all, great site. I can always find my answers here.
I have been using osx for a while now, but im fairly new to this whole networking game. Ive set up folders where i can access files from other computers on my wireless network (these use Windows), but i cant send files to them.....? its also the same for portable hard drives, osx wont allow me to copy files and send them across. Im thinking its a setting some where with my account, but yeh that is the best i can think of.
So if could get some help on how to send and recieve files accross my network, that would be great!
thanks

If I understand you correctly, you can mount the remote shared folders, be they on the Windows machines or on remote drives (which are presumably attached to the Windows machines???) and you can copy files FROM these shared areas but you cannot copy files TO them.

unless you are accessing a Windows Server, may I assume that you are accessing via Windows sharing (SMB:// ) and not Apple sharing (AFP:// )?

Either way, my first thought is that you do not have MODIFY rights to the shared folders. and when you are mounting the shared folders on your desktop, are you prompted to enter a userID/password?

If you RIGHT-CLICK the shared folder on the Windows machine, select SHARING and select the SECURITY tab.

Check that your ID is in the list of accounts that appear, and that it has the following ticked:

MODIFY
READ & EXECUTE
LIST FOLDER CONTENTS
READ
WRITE

Let me know how you get on...

Justin you got it

I had a remote shared folder on a Windows desktop which i could access and copy files, but couldnt copy files to the folder itself. I was using Windows sharing, and i thought it must of been some setting in my osx account that was stopping me from sending files accross. So yeh, you got it. i altered the security settings on the folder itself on the Windows machine like you said and that nailed it.
I have a similar problem, i have a mate that has a external hard drive. and i can also copy files from there, but i cant copy files TO the hard drive. We both where baffled.
anyway, thanks for the help, you nailed it
