Hi,
I have Finder's preferences set to "always open folders in a new window".
Under previous versions of OS X, selecting a folder and typing command-shift-o (or option-double-clicking) would open the selected folder in its own, customary window (honouring its size, location, view and so on) and close the existing window.
Under Leopard, the selected folder opens in the existing folder's window (and usually in the existing folder's view), as if "always open folder in a new window" were deselected.
Is there a solution to this, to make Leopard's Finder behave as earlier versions did? Drilling down through folder hierarchies using the keyboard is something I do quite often, and this bug (and I think it is a bug) is very annoying.
Thanks
Jeremy
To be honest, I haven't tracked Leopard actual bugs ... but Finder preferences often get corrupted. The cure is to remove com.apple.Finder,plist from your user library Preferences folder. Finder will immediately build a new preferences file, which you can set to your liking. See if that cures it; there may be some related window manager preferences, but one usually doesn't have to go further.
Thanks, but that's not the answer. This has happened both on a clean install of Leopard and on an install over 10.4.10.
I could get over it using an AppleScript and a keyboard launcher, but it seems to me that it shouldn't be necessary.

I've just done another test, and I'm pretty sure it is a bug.
If "always open folder in a new window" is selected, the Finder misbehaves as above.
If it is NOT selected, the Finder behaves as it should when I option-double-click or type command-option-o.
Looks as if the "new window" option is reversed when the option key is down, which is definitely wrong.
I'll report it to Apple, if I can work out how.
